Hey Kelwen, welcome aboard
Never used the energy bars, what are they like?
To be honest the only time I've ever needed to take food in on a race was the 111km in St Gallen, and what I quickly realised there is that it's crap trying to eat proper food and chew when trying to stick in the paceline! I'm going to stick to gel packs from now on if I need anything. |

Thanks - i thought i should start contibuting!
They are chewy but do seem to kick in quite quickly real energy boost within 10-15. Mainly I've used them playing american football; so not sure what they'd be like skating. Maybe good for a pre-start energy...
What Gel packs do you use? |

Food like bananas, Soreen malt loaf, etc. is IMO a better bet, healthier, and a lot cheaper. I do occasionally use sports drinks, but they are no longer my preferred option.
Tut tut, Gav, you need to work on your nutrition on longer races if that's what you did! I'm seriously shocked!!!! |

I just used the Powerade Gel packs to be honest, they were the only ones I could get my hands on.
Mike, unfortunately bananas don't fit in the back pocket of my skinsuit, and along with soreen malt loaf would probably get a bit crushed when racing... so neither are really suitable |

I used the "power bar" brand "power gel" in berlin and really liked it
Citroen tasted good - not too sweet
Blackcurrant (with caffeine) was a great final stretch
Did need water with me though - catching those cups of water was impossible.
They said to take the first one after an hour, and another every half hour after that, so I'm guessing Gav wouldn't really need that!

| I drunk Viper (powder mixed with water) during the race: 500ml, i actually over mixed it so it was a bit sweet but it really helped especially the last 10km. |
