The date and place for the EUROPEAN MASTER MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS has been confirmed as SAVONA (Italy) 1st week-end of October
(over 30, over 40, over 50,over 60)
This is definitely on next year's schedule for Kay and myself. Hopefully it will be a nice warm weather event to end the season with.

| 1st Weekend would be 7th/8th and not the 30thSep/1st Oct I suspect which make this clash with Cologne. If its on the 1st October then I would be up for it. |

According to the Italian Federation it is on 1st October. So no clash with Cologne! |

| It seems the European Masters race is on 8th October. 1st is the Italian Marathon Champs also in Savona. There's still not much information going around about this so I am a bit confused. Has anyone tried to find out anything other than an Internet search. There in a thread on the Bont forum Skate-In mag lists it as the 8th too as does the BRSF website. Powerslide list it as 1st but they might have got that from us. I am going to change the entry in the race calendar to 8th as the bulk of the evidence points that way. That means a clash with Cologne, which I don't want to miss. |

Roger, are you doing this?
I'm interested, but every time I have done a cursory check on hotels they are all full.
Are you going and do you know of accommodation? |

We are almost definitely going, but I haven't made any travel arrangements yet.
I don't think accomodation will be a problem, unless there is something more major than the skating happening in the area. Savona is part of an area called the Italian Riviera, its a big holiday area and there are lots of hotels, and its October. I checked online and there wasn't anything in Savona itself, but there was plenty just along the coast. |

Kay and myself are now entered.
We are going to do the marathon and then stay in the area for a week of cycling and sight-seeing.
We are planning to stay in the Hotel Medusa in Finale Ligure, as it has caters specially for cyclists, and other sports people. Its also a good location half-way between the start and the end of the marathon. (The marathon is a point to point along the coast.)
Flights to Genoa with Ryanair are currently very cheap that weekend.
Flight details are:
From London Stansted (STN) to Genoa (GOA) Reg fare
Saturday, 07 Oct 06 Flight 972 Depart London Stansted (STN) 11:10
Arrive Genoa (GOA) 14:15
Coming Back - All times are local
From Genoa (GOA) to London Stansted (STN) Reg fare
Sunday, 15 Oct 06 Flight 973 Depart Genoa (GOA) 13:10
Arrive London Stansted (STN) 14:10 |

I have no personal knowledge of the course, but I found this quote on the Bont forum: "A hardcore race, with astonishing scenery, a couple of unforgiving hills and a hard finishing". There was also a comment from Bill Begg to confirm that it was a good course. See

Forgot to say that I have now entered for this race.
I'm going out on Friday and returning on Monday 9th. The flights are fairly cheap on Ryanair but only once a day, hence the Monday return. Hopefully it will be a long weekend in the sun. Any more takers? |
