I know Ray enjoyed this marathon last year (details here) and there was some talk initiated by Markus on Redlocker here, of even tying it in with the Rhine On Skates 2007 137km epic which happens the day before.
Full details, maps, entry forms etc are here
Is anyone interested? (or will you all be in Columbia )
Rick can you add to calendar, please |

| It looks like I'll be able to do this again this year - It's such a fun race! I might even try the Rhine on skates as well. |

Now registering for this race
Helen and I will be staying in this region (in Kastellaun 16-28 August) We have an apartment there with two spare beds if anyone (or two) is coming and needs accomodation the night before the race. |

Kay and Roger are hoping to register on the day for this one, to keep Ray company.
We are employing the currently unfashionable reverse taper strategy for this race, where we do a long (135km!), slow skate the day before, to prime our body's energy systems. I expect great results on the day! |

This race was not very successful for me, or Kay. I fell in the first km, and banged my head pretty damned hard. Kay saw me and came back to help me. When I had recovered enough consciousness to realise how hard I fell I let Kay take me to the first aid. Afterwards the race was long gone and the organisers gave us a lift back to the start. Luckily I don't seem to have any long-term issues as a result of the fall.
The race started with a long descent, and near the end of the descent there was a narrowing for a traffic island. Unfortunately there was a lot of traffic in front of me and they all had heel brakes, so they blocked my way through. I think I probably fell rather than try to shove through and take out a load more people. I think my mistake was to start too far back, behind all the people with brakes, or maybe I should have worn a brake for this race.
It was a shame because we skated a big chunk of the route today (Monday) as its mostly along a dedicated cycle path, and all the stuff we skated today was really easy-peasy, nice long up and downs. Maybe we will try again next year.
I should also say thankyou to the first-aiders and organisers who were very friendly and professional. |

Sorry to hear about your fall Roger, but glad that you seemed to have made a quick recovery.
