Did it for Berlin in both directions and that was with Ryan Air who would find a way for charging you to stick them in the hold if they could.

Not the special one for your Bont frame, was it? Surprised

It was, yes.  It has now been replaced by a handmade (well, hand-adapted) Bont-style skate tool, courtesy of Peter C and his angle grinder.

I think I'll be doing the "remove frames and carry boots in hand luggage" thing this weekend again, just because I'm paranoid and my travel insurance doesn't cover valuables in the hold.  It's not as though I had them set up very well anyway - I've only skated twice since I got back from Berlin.

Haven't you drawn on the bottom of your boots in pen to say where your frames should go?

Dan (B), if you see Daniel (J), see if you can pinch some of the minature ruler stickers that he has.  Naomi got some and they look to be quite useful.

I have, but it's not terribly precise.  I should probably use paint or nail varnish or something.

Well it seems BAA can't seem to get its act together...

Skates as hand luggage from stanstead to blackpool - no problems...
Skates as hand luggage from Blackpool to Stanstead - no way whatsoever sports gear has to go in the hold and Roller skates are most definitely sports equipment... I'm shocked they survived the journey... (visualy checked)..

I often carry my skates on my hand luggage bag.

aye... some stupid jobsworth who reckons skates are Sports Equipment...

sometimes I'm embarrassed to be a northerner when you meet that type of ignorance...  He even accused me directly of lying about brigning them to blackpool as hand luggage already...

it just wasn't worth arguing though... otherwise I'd have missed the last baggage checkin..

Air Berlin made me put them in the hold, so I didn't risk it going to Italy with Ryanair, put them in the hold again; but mine are not as valuable as a lot of others, otherwise I think I would take Dan's route. It seems to vary from security man to security man and is completely unpredictable.
