Not much again. Doing quite a bit of walking as the knee is bending about 80% now. Enough to be walking normally but it can't twist without pain or put much lateral force on it without discomfort. Not wanting to blow my recovery, I am declaring myself off skating for another week. Will put them on to potter round the house from time to time and will keep doing the odd session of gentle dryland striding to test the recovery. Hope to start gentle skating next week and, weather permitting, to do the Stroll as a punter on 5th Nov. I definately won't make a recovery in time for New Forest. Next milestone not to be missed is therefore the Santa Skate which gives me plenty of time to ease myself back to a reasonable standard of fitness.
Hope to see you all come back loads faster from Sardinia. Have fun. |

I think I might be following Rick's lead, actually. I knocked my knee against a kerb on Tuesday last week, and although it was manageable skating on it with a tubigrip yesterday, it would be so much more sensible to wait for it to grow back properly.
Besides, I think my training plan says I should be in the "Preparation" phase for the next few weeks anyway ... |

hmm, well Ill hopefully be training with a singaporean speed club once or twice, but other than that, monday... dunno. I need a rest day at the moment, but I really enjoy what im doing, and I know there will be plenty of days coming up when I wont get any opportunities to do anything, like I had earlier this week in barcelona.
I'll be doing some running, as its the most accessible form of excercise whilst im travelling, & in bad weather. Until of course I get bored & my motivation runs out - like when I touch down after the 1st of my 9 flights.
sunday (tomorrow) Ill do a leisurely skate over to Decathlon to sort out my new helmet & some winter longs - Ive worked my muscles a lot the last couple of days & they need an easy day.
I dont think Ill skate mon or tues (I fly tues night) as I find Hyde Park simply soul destroying unless im doing it with someone else, so Ill probably just do a run on monday with JB (crosses over with his basketball stuff) & lowwalking on tuesday. Unless anyone else has any suggestions & is free during the day or before work...
I cant wait to come back at the end of November & join you all at Richmond again. And do penance for not having lifted a wheel whilst travelling... |

Surely you can find a spinning class or at the very least a cycling machine? Thats got to be at least as helpful as running

I thought you had already left but I (and Nina) are around Monday and Tuesday daytime (no work club ) So if you want to meet up for a skate either at HP or we could even arrange a trip to Richmond Park. Let me know (I have PM'd you my mobile in case you want to text) |

| Andy raises a good point there, that running fitness is starting to get further away from skating fitness, more so than cycling. That's also what makes it good for during the off season. It's completely different, yet still maintains fitness, so your body gets a little shocked and woken up. It's also great to do some different exercise for at least some of the year so you don't get too bored with just skating all the time. |

cool!
(spinning class costs money and classes are scheduled, and I think Ill be hard pushed to find one in each of singapore, brisbane, melbourne, sydney, bankok AND Groningen...)
Ive got your number, thanks, and Ill be up for anything really. just let me know? tuesday would have to be morning, as I fly pm. monday can be either, but Id need to find out soon today, as I need to tell my (very flexible) client when their lesson will be...
thanks!
turns out that today is a recovery day. My legs informed me on the way to my lesson today. |
