I'm not going to make Tatem this evening, as I need to rest still after Euros. My groin is also slightly strained. Hopefully I'll be there Thursday for a bit of speed work, but am keeping everything light as World Champs start in 18 days!
Adrian, "Speed Captain Gav" also is going to be away for 2 of the 3 weeks in Colombia!! I'll be there next week though. |

No, it was a 500m track in Welwyn Garden City (probably a bit far for you Londoners).
We practiced following close to each other but a vveerryy slow speed
I had to find them I'm afraid, I went to watch them race at the velodrome last Friday and thought it looked a bit of fun so went training there yesterday. |

Great training session Adrian,
The handicapped 1000s were great fun and made me realise the importance of being nimble on the track (particularly when you've got to get around big fellas like Rick and Ray) and the tips on making yourself big on the starts were really useful.
Have a great holiday,

Emptying my aching lungs to cheer on LSST members at Goodwood as they lapped me isn't enough support? |
Don't be a cheapskate! See Rick's post also, I'm sure you earn a lot more than I do. |
Yeah don't worry, I noticed Ricks post.
I'm guessing I don't earn as much as you think I do... but earnings don't really matter, my outgoings are currently more than my earnings (mortgage + rent, two sets of bills, etc.). Not good.

Hey Barrie,
Would be really great if you could join the team. Great for us as the more numbers really helps build up the profile of the team; but will also be great benefit for you as well - particularly during the winter when we do a lot of technique work - which is generally free for LSST members. If you did the technique sessions, then I am sure next year you would do much better at Goodwood/LIM etc.
I know it took me a while before I joined the club and in retrospect I wish I joined earlier because I would be a much better skater if I did.

Cheers for the encouragement from you both (and Sol a little while ago when I was starting a previous build-up attempt). It's really a question of cash, time and commitment - I hate doing things half-hearted, and I've got a few things to wrap up at the moment (flat sale being one of them).
I'm trying to get together with George, for more faster skating sessions to boost my general fitness and skating. Which if it comes off should make quite a difference for Berlin...
Other than that I've got serious doubts about marathons, I've always been a sprint based athlete with bugger-all stamina - so I guess I'll have to see how my muscles (and dodgy lung - I was coughing up a little blood when I started marshalling) react to the sessions with EverReady George...
At Goodwood I managed to sustain about 180bpm, while draughting, for 1hr47 - I'm really not convinced I'm cut out for endurance racing! (for the record, I'm not about to die, I've got a high max heart rate for my age, but my resting rate is well below 50bpm, I've seen 43-45 when chilled on the sofa).
Anyway, excuses aside, I'll see how my body reacts to the sessions with George and take it from there - either it's going to be very satisfying, or very frustrating. If it's satisfying then I'm well up for a good winter. |

There you go then. Join the club (and FISS) and you can enter the track races. They think 3km is a long way. |

Ah discounts. It's may not be as good as you think. Our membership year corresponds to the FISS membership year which is the calendar year. We also over lap it by a couple of months at either end.
Because much of the season is over by August and we don't generally do any more clothing orders at this time of year. We allow people to have a discounted membership of £15 (or £12.50 for students & U18s) from 1st August for a couple of months which would make you a member until the end of February. There is a restriction imposed on this. No clothing discount but you get other benefits including the LIM discounted entry.
Our financial year is 1st October to 30th September. So, from 1st October, we start taking the following year's memberships so we account for them in the right financial year. |

In case anyone's up this early and raring to go skate, I'm about to head out to Hillingdon Cycle Circuit. (Having missed the LFNS last night due to baby issues.)
According to the Cycle Circuit programme I need to be off the circuit by around 10ish to avoid getting in the way of the "Hillingdon Slipstreamers Childrens Club for under 16 year olds"... |
