LSST CLUB RACE 20 APRIL 2008
Wednesday, 23-Apr-2008
On April 20th LondonSkaters Speed Team organised a track race at Tatem Park.  The first UK race of the outdoor season, it saw a large number of competitors and spectators, and our club was well-represented on the podium with a win in Category 1 for new member Kimmo Ilmavirta and places for Gavin Pollock (3rd, Cat 1), Peter Carr (3rd, Cat 2) and Edmar Gwiazda (3rd, Cat 3/4 Devils).  Despite some uncertainty in the weather forecast the track stayed dry all day and the sun even came out during the second half.

The organisers and club committee would like to thank everyone who offered help and advice both on the day and in the runup to the event.  Thanks also to the FISS officials and judges present on the day.

Club race events are free for spectators and cost around a tenner to participate in if you're a FISS member. There are also races open to all skaters called "RAT" races (which are cheaper but shorter) which are open to anyone with skates and a helmet.  Check the events list for future races, and see the event discussion on the club forum.

The organisers wish to offer their thanks to everyoe that helped on the day and bigger thanks to the people that did stuff beforehand, especially Sol for the baking, sarnies and lunches.  Thanks also to officials and judges.

WINTER TRAINING & SARDINIA
Monday, 14-Nov-2005
Well, after a fantastic season ending for everyone, we're all getting ready for focusing on our technique and improving our skating over the winter. Almost 15 of our team are attending the Experts In Speed Sardinia training camp from the 20-27 Nov. Run by Sebastian Baumgartner (ex Saab-Salomon) and his associates, a few of us have been on his camps previously and had an amazing time. We're looking forward to a week of skating and good food!

Over the winter Mike van Erp is ramping up the number of technique sessions held in Hyde Park (free to members) and we're getting good attendance as everyone is focused on improving for next year!
